Stress Induced Fibromyalgia

Extreme stress and long-term excessive stress can cause fibromyalgia.

An In-Depth Look At Stress Induced Fibromyalgia

Extreme chronic stress can trigger fibromyalgia by constantly bombarding the adrenal glands.  The body cannot tell physical stress from emotional stress, and thus reacts the same to both.  Chronic stress leads to over stimulation of adrenal glands initially.  Over time the glands fatigue.  The hormone released by the adrenal glands, cortisol, is an important regulating hormone.  It controls the release of many other hormones.

If cortisol levels are not balanced, other hormones can become imbalanced as well.  This can lead to the body-wide symptoms of fibromyalgia.

You May Have Stress Induced Fibromyalgia If...

  • Your symptoms began following an extremely stressful period in life;
  • You suffer from anxiety attacks or depression;
  • You have excessive pressure being put on you daily;
  • You are "overloaded".

Recommendations for Stress Induced Fibromyalgia

Although you would think that the appropriate treatment is to simply decrease stress, it is not that easy.  By the time fibromyalgia has set in, the body has adapted to the abnormal levels.  The problem is now a physical problem that requires a very specialized process of hormone balancing.  This process can only be performed by a professional, and should be peformed by a fibromyalgia specialist.
