To receive a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, you must have answered YES to the first three questions (Mandatory Criteria). These three symptoms are known as the Primary Fibromyalgia Symptoms. If you did not answer yes to all three questions, you may be experiencing an isolated problem, and should consult with your doctor about the problem. If you answered yes to only the three primary symptoms of fibromyalgia, you may have early onset fibromyalgia. Catching and treating fibromyalgia early is important, as the treatment is usually much easier. If you answered YES to the three primary symptoms of fibromyalgia AND answered YES to 1 to 4 secondary symptoms, you may have a moderate to severe case of fibromyalgia. Treatment should begin immediately. Treatment for moderate to severe fibromyalgia requires a multifaceted approach, and usually a fibromyalgia specialty clinic. If you answered YES to the three primary symptoms of fibromyalgia and YES to more than 4 secondary symptoms, you may have severe fibromyalgia. Treatment should begin immediately and requires specialized care from fibromyalgia experts.
